When Ms. Bhavini Parikh looked around her textile-rich yet waste-heavy industry, she saw every discarded scrap—not as trash, but as a canvas for innovation and transformation. Today, she is the Founder & CEO of Bunko Junko, a trailblazing brand that turns fabric offcuts into wearable art, creating both environmental impact and social empowerment.
A Journey Crafted with Purpose
Bhavini’s fashion saga began in the heart of garment manufacturing, where she led embroidery and garment ornamentation for major brands. This role introduced her not only to design but also to the stark reality of textile waste—and the untapped potential of women artisans. Energized by this realization, she honed her vision of merging sustainability with creativity.
Her ambition blossomed in 2018 when she launched Bunko Junko—a brand dedicated to upcycling pre-consumer textile waste into stylish apparel, decor, and accessories. Beyond fashion, it became a means to uplift rural and tribal women through training and employment.
A Brand Born from Names and Narratives
The name “Bunko Junko” is as meaningful as it is unique. Co-created with her daughter during a stroll, “Bunko” (Japanese for “art decoration creation”) captures the brand’s artistic core, while “Junko” cleverly echoes “junk”—bringing beauty from waste. The name itself symbolizes the brand’s ethos of creative transformation.
Transforming Waste into Worth
Fuelled by a zero-waste policy, every fabric remnant is meticulously repurposed—whether into garments, home décor, or even seed-paper “thank‑you” cards that can grow into plants when planted. This commitment not only reduces landfill waste and carbon output, but also conserves water and resources.
So far, Bunko Junko has diverted 38 tonnes of fabric from landfills and empowered over 5,000 women across states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Bihar.
